TASTING :: NOVEMBER 2, 2014

november-2-2014

Chardonnay, Meiomi Wines

California – $22.75

Bright, enticing layers of tropical fruit are heightened by the enchantingly sweet smells of brown sugar, honey, and butterscotch. Notes of mango and citrus zest enhance the complex palate. The lush, creamy mouthfeel is elevated by subtle flavors of honey and butterscotch.

Elouan Pinot Noir, Meiomi Wines

Oregon – $21.95

This 2014 Elouan Pinot Noir is richer and more full bodied than what is typical of Oregon Pinot Noir, which generally is very lean. Bright ruby red in color. Ripe cranberry, sweet cinnamon and fresh cherry create an inviting bouquet, with a subtle earthiness. The palate shows texture and weight with firm acidity that carries the flavor through. The flavor profile shows red plum, bright cherry, minerality, dusty earth, and a hint of sweet tobacco, creating rustic layers of flavor with soft refined tannins.

Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Ironstone Vineyards

California – $25.15

The 2012 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is seductive and full-bodied, exuding aromas of fresh berries, black currants and cherries that are laced with eucalyptus, cedar and mint. Big and powerful, yet elegant, this Cabernet exhibits flavors of sweet dark blackberry and plum with soft, creamy vanilla that plays well with the unique mineral qualities found only in wines from Sierra Foothill vineyards.

Rocky Top Zinfandel, Sobon Estate

California – $16.75

This is an outstanding Zinfandel of immense proportions. The very floral, vanilla and raspberry jam aromas are very forward and inviting. The flavors match the aromas, with a rich juicy component. The finish is long and velvety-rich.

Running With Bulls Tempranillo, Rafa Vineyards

Australia – $19.10

These more exotic notes remain a mere side plate to its aromatic main course of cherries, blackberries and plums, all expressed with ripe regional character and sensitively used oak. Somewhat luscious and silky, its medium-medium/full bodied palate expresses cherry and plum fruits and appears to be definitively more regional than varietal.

Goat-Roti Syrah, Fairview Vineyards

South Africa – $16.65

Pepper and clove aromas with subtle fragrance. Dark bramble fruit flavors balance well with gentle oak and firm tannins. Bold structure with rich, fruit forward flavors.
